remembering my purpose

A friend shared this picture with me today and I had to post it here too.

It's a picture of a "waterfall of clouds," as the photographer calls it, on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands.

It took me back to where I was 10 years ago as a missionary. These seven islands, which have little significance when it comes to the world stage, brought people and experiences and growth that are hugely significant in my life. I have been changed for the better because of these islands.

I'm glad a long-lost friend remembered and thought enough of me to send this along and brighten my day and take me back to that year and a half of my life when things were so simple, so clear. I had one purpose and that was to bring others to Christ.

Ten years later I find myself scattered and running in too many directions at once. Of course, I have more hats to wear these days but the main purpose of my life is still to bring others to Christ -- most especially my family and friends. I need to remember that when I plan my days and weeks. I need to remember what's truly important.

This picture is going on my desktop to remind me to do just that.
