my friend, shauna, is awesomely talented in the crafty/cool/trendy department. that's probably why she works at places like anthropologie. i'm sure they don't take just ordinary people. she does rad paintings and someday when i save up enough pennies i'm going to buy a few from her.

for now, i'm going to steal her crafty flower-making tips. talk about adorable. somehow i don't see christian appreciating them so i may have to try a few out on myself.

sleepers and quilt were made especially for christian by his grandma larsen with lots of love (for which we are truly grateful).

the other day, when christian hit his six-week mark, i was trying to cheer him up and decided to play with the webcam. at first the flash threw him off but at least it offered a distraction. here's what we came up with:

first mother's day

it's hard to believe i'm a mother this mother's day. i realize i went through 31-plus hours of labor and have been feeding and caring for this little guy around the clock but i still don't feel like i've earned the privilege of being honored as a mother in the way my mother should be.

maybe after i've been a mom for 27-plus years the way my mother has i'll feel like i've earned the title. hope so. if i'm even half the mother my mom is, christian will be one lucky fellow.

happy one month

the first thing uncle tanner did this morning after he woke up was run over to christian and wish him "happy birthday" with a big kiss.

we've been in california for nearly a week now and finally experienced a full day of sunshine, which meant we got to try out scooter's new hat:

i was so nervous about flying alone with christian across the country but the kid was an angel. he slept, ate and slept again. and somehow we lucked out (tender mercy?) and had an extra seat next to us with a sweet grandma on the other side of it.
